- Scenario 1: Language Arts/History

Written:

Mrs. WorldWarII is teaching about the Holocaust to her 8th grade social studies. To facilitate the use of current and emerging digital tools for research and learning, she is going to take the students on a virtual tour of the German Concentration camps using Google Earth and the integrated photos that others can upload. The teacher will lead a classroom discussion in analyzing the photos that others have uploaded and attached to the sites for drawing conclusions as to why these photos have significant meaning to the concentration camps. Of course, the teacher has previewed these photos for discretion and optimal choice for discussion. As a class, the students will vote on one photo to use as a writing inspiration piece, focusing on understanding other points of view. Students will take a few moments to put themselves in the position of a young Jewish child entering the gates of one of the concentration camps and write a brief piece explaining their initial reactions. After students have shared a few of their own thoughts, the teacher will reference examples of individual's accounts of their own experiences as primary sources to share and compare.
